Portland State University: Ecosystems Services Case Study

The Clean Water Services case discussed here presents an innovative strategy of using a watershed:scale approach to meet regulatory requirements for water quality. The National Pollution Discharge Elimination (NPDES) permit issued to Clean Water Services in 2004 was the first example of a municipal, integrated watershed:based NPDES permit in the nation (Cochran and Logue, 2011).
